California leaders fume over Supreme Court ruling on immigration raids |

Gov. Gavin Newsom vowed to “continue fighting” after the U.S. Supreme Court lifted restrictions on immigration raids in Los Angeles, but the state might not have many options.

In a State of the State address to the Legislature, Gov. Gavin Newsom characterized California as the bulwark against a White House that has consolidated executive power, strong-armed the press and universities, and won a court victory this week allowing immigration officials to profile people based on their perceived ethnicity.

Thousands Protest Trump’s ‘War’ on Chicago |

Chicagoans this weekend told Trump to take his warmongering and shove it. They marched through the streets by the thousands, carrying signs that compared him to Hitler, calling for protections for immigrants and pledging to fight back if he deploys National Guard soldiers, the AP, the Chicago Tribune and NBC News reported. Twenty years ago, Tarrant County was 75% white, the largest red county in the country. But explosive growth, driven entirely by people of color, has boosted the power of Black and Hispanic voters. Now majority non-white, Tarrant County has become a true swing county, and if demographic changes continue, seems on track to eventually turn blue. Until redistricting.

Progressive, Young Democrats

The Weed Whacker theme here will briefly spotlight the "progressive" versus "liberal" democrat labels, frequently misused or misunderstood. Republicans and conservatives use liberal as a slur, without realizing that the term liberal includes corporate democrats who align with corporate republicans. Their continued reliance on labeling Democrats as "liberals", or worse, reveals a lack of imagination and makes them clueless on the term "progressive." Many "Liberal" Democrats today are easily identified by corporate/PAC cash donations, making them beholden to the pre-Trump status quo establishment and thereby hesitant to bold resistance to Trump. This may explain the dismal approval ratings for the term "democrats."
Young voters are more amenable to the term progressive, and the following links explain why. According to The New Republic's (Sept. 2025) State of the Nation column, young progressives are flocking to new, left-wing voices on streaming platforms like YouTube and Twitch.
