Last week, America got a little darker with another act of horrific political violence. It is times like this when we as a nation and party must lean into our empathy. We can recognize that many around the country are grieving and use this as an opportunity to have real conversations about shared experiences around violence and the causes of violence. No one is without pain, anger, or frustration in these tense times. Blame and judgement serve nobody except for those seeking to draw attention to themselves.

As Democrats navigate this juncture, we cannot retreat and allow others to define us. We must show that those who cast aspersions against us are wrong by demonstrating that our voices are most powerful at the ballot box, in the courthouse, and on the streets through non-violent civil disobedience. Violence has no place in the world that we seek to build. The Placer County Democratic Party will continue in its dedication to building relationships that foster community. If we want 2026 to be different from 2024, we must lead in both our words and deeds, one conversation at a time, one public event at a time, to show that our party strives to protect, heal, and empower people in Placer County, California, and our country.

President Donald Trump has for years told outlandish lies about elections in Democratic-dominated California. Trump made more false claims on the subject in a Fox News interview on Friday, prompting California Gov. Gavin Newsom, a Democrat, to correctly note on social media that the president had told “an outright lie.”

Prop50-LIE: Politicians drew the maps to pick their own voters.
Prop-50 - FACT: The Maps were drawn up by a professional consultancy business with expertise in California redistricting criteria for district requirements. The 2020 Commission Policy Manual authorizes the use of consultants as needed for expertise in election redistricting.

Prop50-LIE: Sacramento Politicians are abandoning the approved Redistricting Commission work of drawing fair maps.

Prop-50 Facts: California and the U.S. is experiencing a historic Emergency for Democracy. This isn't politics as usual. Donald Trump and Texas Republicans are making an unprecedented power grab to steal congressional seats and rig the 2026 election before voting even begins. Other Republican states are planning to follow Texas' actions. For an indepth objective analysis of Prop 50 provisions, the Legislative Analysis Office Report provides accurate information. Under the Prop-50 proposal these maps will be used temporarily until the Citizens Redistricting Commission draws new district maps, following the 2030 U.S. Census.

Say Yes to Prop 50 to fight Republican stealing and rigging of the 2026 Congressional election.

Note: If Californians don’t act now, Donald Trump will seize total power for two more years by depriving California and other democratic states their U.S. Constitutional rights to fair representation in the federal government. 

All public and private high schools in the state are invited to nominate up to two outstanding juniors or seniors who are interested in pursuing careers in public service to participate in the United States Senate Youth Program (USSYP), an educational program coordinated by the California Department of Education (CDE) and sponsored by the William Randolph Hearst Foundation.

The 64th Annual Washington Week is being planned to be held in person in Washington, D.C., March 7–14, 2026.

Key 2025 Special Election Information

• October 6 - County elections officials begin mailing ballots on or
  before this date.
• October 7 - Secure Ballot Drop boxes open.
• October 20 - Last day to register to vote. Same day voter registration
  is available at your county elections office or voting location after
  this date, up to and including Election Day.
• November 4 - Last day to vote in-person or return a ballot
  by 8 PM. Polls are open from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. If you mail back your
  ballot it must be postmarked no later than November 4.
