In commemoration of the progress made by women on International Women’s Day and in defense of the values of our nation, the Placer County Democratic Party and our partners are holding a rally on Saturday, March 8, from 11:00am to 1:00pm in Roseville.
We are holding this rally to stand with those who are concerned, frustrated, and outraged by the actions being taken by President Trump and the Republican controlled Congress. This Republican Congress has introduced the SAVE Act to combat unproven election fraud claims while it unnecessarily risks the disenfranchisement of women who have changed their last names. This Republican Congress has also introduced a national abortion ban bill with 70 cosponsors, despite repeated insistences that this issue would be left to the states. Overzealous immigration enforcement is threatening to separate women from their children. President Trump blames Ukraine for being invaded while giving Russia a free pass for its numerous and well documented war crimes, including mass sexual violence against women and girls. President Trump has also launched an assault on public education, despite access to a quality public education being the number one driver of equality between men and women in the world. While women have made tremendous gains for respect and acknowledgement of their achievements in the workforce, Elon Musk and President Trump have initiated the widespread termination of federal employees in the name of undoing DEI. These purgings of people’s livelihoods are being done without regard to experience or performance. This is all happening with the backdrop of Trump and Republicans trying to pass a federal budget with deep cuts to Medicaid and SNAP benefits for the lowest income families to offset tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans and no proposed solutions for worsening economic problems.
Our elected Republican representatives at the federal, state, and local levels in Placer County have remained silent amid the chaos and blatant tarnishing of our nation’s governing principles. But on International Women’s Day, we cannot remain silent. Please join us on March 8 to be the voices that we need when it comes to protecting services for working-class families and seniors, advocating for infrastructure and healthcare services in our rural communities, and advancing solutions to the threats of wildfire and climate change. These issues affect not only women but all people who call Placer County and our country home. Let us demand that our elected representatives face us and hear us. It is time to show that this country belongs to the working people who built it, not the billionaires who think they own it.
