"What I am most worried about: A rapid slide into a Gilded Age where the middle class is non-existent and the rich control the voting process, thus ensuring that we become an oligarchy/kleptocracy on its way to full dictatorship." - Stephanie

Suicide hotline for gay kids: California invests in their mental health
|
In my public service career, as a budget analyst for the federal government and several California state departments, I realized that government budgets are large, complex documents not easily understood. One effective tool for public consumption is to focus on the human interest behind the often technocratic labels of human services programs.
In this story, I invite you to read about a tragic federal action that eliminated a vital service directly tied to saving lives, and to see how California is fighting back against Trump's disregard for vulnerable people. (Aside - The Federal Government budget cuts had fatal consequences on Texas families and children. Because the recoveries of hundreds of fatalies is incomplete, we defer that reporting.)
While the federal government turns its back on vulnerable youth, California is stepping up with historic mental health investments, including a $4.7 billion Master Plan for Kids’ Mental Health and continued partnerships with organizations like the Trevor Project to provide LGBTQ suicide prevention for youth.
