June 2025 Newsletter "Nobody votes for roadkill"

A Message from Our Chair Nick Bennett June 2025
|
Hi ,
Placer County’s delegates to the California Democratic Party’s convention in Anaheim have returned, and I can tell you that Democrats throughout California are fired up and organizing. I hope that you are fired up and ready too, because this is going to be a summer of resistance.
We must show Republicans that the American people will not sit by and remain silent as they perpetrate unprecedented chaos, corruption, and cruelty. We must show Kevin Kiley that there are consequences for voting to cut Medicaid. We must let Joe Patterson know that voting against protecting students from ICE raids is wrong. We must show our school boards that we see them when they continue to adopt policies to erase LGBTQ+ students.
I hope to see you out on street corners on June 14 for a national day of protest. And if that is not enough for you, the Placer County Democratic Party is offering a Democracy Workshop on June 18 to help you become a more effective activist. If you are still asking yourself “what can I do,” ask yourself “what do I want to do,” and then let us know. There are likely other Democrats in your community who want to do the same thing. We can support you and help you organize.
Don’t wait for those at the national or state level to tell you what to do, resistance and activism starts with you. This summer, let's make Republicans feel the heat.
We want to hear from you so please contact us at [email protected] or me at [email protected].

Reminder: A core principle behind all No Kings events is a commitment to nonviolent action. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values.

California Democratic Convention
|
The 2025 State Convention was this past weekend in Anaheim, CA. Delegates from our region attended the convention to elect new Party Officers and Regional Directors, welcome new delegates, and begin the hard work of organizing for 2026.

Delegates from the Placer County region
|
Gov. Tim Walz, Sen. Cory Booker, and other elected leaders made powerful speeches at the convention.
"Nobody votes for roadkill," Gov. Walz said. We need leaders who are willing to fight for us and that we trust.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT
Rally in Rockin: NO CUTS TO MEDICAID!
|
Hundreds packed a May 10th Roseville town hall organized by Placer County Democrats because Rep. Kevin Kiley refuses to meet with his district.
Meanwhile, Kiley voted for a House budget that threatens healthcare and food aid for millions.
Why is Kiley so afraid of his constituents? For a second week in a row, constituents gathered near Rep. Kevin Kiley's office to protest against potential cuts to medicaid. Kiley has refused to meet with his constituents. Last week, Kiley's staff reportedly called the police for "trespassing." So on April 23, over 450 people gathered at a restaurant down the street from Congressman Kiley’s office to rally. After a lively rally at the restaurant, hundreds of people walked and wheeled down the street to talk with their congressman, who was again MISSING IN ACTION. Many folks went inside the office to talk with staff, while the police stood by and observed. Why is Kiley afraid of his constituents?

Rally in Rockin: NO CUTS TO MEDICAID!

Hundreds of attendees at Placer Pride stopped to interact with our volunteers about what they have already done to protest Trump's actions and what they plan to do in the near future.

Let's be honest - rallies and protests in the streets are vital and necessary for mobilization. But we also need organization. If you donate just $14 (or any amount) we can fund our organization efforts to defend our democracy and Move Placer County Forward.
