2025 has been a year when Democrats in Placer County have demonstrated resilience, resistance, persistence, solidarity, and action. 2024 left many heartbroken and in a state of soul searching. However, we came together out of love for our communities and showed that our spirits weren’t broken. Instead, Democrats and Americans throughout our country and our county proved the opposite. Our passion and desire for justice and a better America grew stronger as the year went on.
The Placer County Democratic Central Committee and the Democratic Clubs in Placer County helped lead the way in 2025 in showing that we deserve better than our current presidential administration and Congressional representation. The Placer County Democratic Party organized the International Women’s Day Rally at the Galleria Mall in March and participated in the No Kings Rallies that took place in Roseville, Auburn, and Lincoln. We held several rallies in front of Kevin Kiley’s office in Rocklin. After being ignored by Kiley, Placer Democrats held an in-person town hall with hundreds of attendees at West Park High School in Roseville. We honored our service members with a Memorial Day screening of Surviving the Silence and Veterans’ Day Candidate Forum, both in Lincoln. We also held a Democracy Workshop in June.
Placer County Democrats registered voters at Sierra College and spoke with students at several high schools. Our Democratic Clubs hosts several coffee and conversations and Common Grounds events to connect with Democrats in their communities. Placer Democrats had booths at several community events including the Placer County Fair, Placer Pride, and for the Placer MLK March. The Roseville Junction Democratic Club was also reactivated and renamed the Roseville Area Democratic Club.
Then when Proposition 50 was on the ballot, Democrats throughout Placer stepped up to help make sure that it passed. Democrats knocked on over 10,000 doors in Placer County and made countless phone calls. Because of generous donations this year, we were able to send out nearly 50,000 “Yes on 50” mailers and over 100,000 text messages. Thanks to all that hard work, we now have the opportunity to help elect three Democrats to the House of Representatives.
As Chair of the Placer County Democratic Party, I want to thank every single person who volunteered, attended an event, or campaigned for Prop 50. Your shared values and desires are what forms the spirit of the Placer County Democratic Party. You standing up and speaking out made this year so memorable. To my fellow Central Committee members and all the members of our Democratic Clubs, your dedication makes everything that we do possible. You are the champions who put in the work behind the scenes to make a difference here in Placer.
As we enter 2026, our work remains far from done, but we are no less motivated to do the work. The Trump Administration continues to find new ways on a weekly basis to be cruel, corrupt, chaotic, and incompetent. Our national economy is starting to crack at a time when the grossly wealthy concern themselves more with their super yachts and space ships than with affordable healthcare and housing for everyone else. Locally, Placer County school boards continue to find ways to erase any visibility of LGBTQ+ students. But 2026 is our year to help change that.
The Placer County Democratic Party will continue to be present in our communities and host events throughout the county. We are going to continue to stand up for our values. That means protecting our immigrant and LGBTQ+ neighbors. That means pushing back against the attacks of climate and vaccine science. That means championing an economy that puts the needs of workers before stock holders, so that everyone has access to healthcare and security in their retirement. We will maintain the standard that we can advocate for our beliefs without being toxic or stoking hate. We will show the American people that the Democratic Party is the party that believes in the rule of law and responsible governance.
2026 is the year where we put Placer County Republicans on the defensive. There are a lot of terrible school board members up for re-election that we can replace. We are going to continue to hold elected officials accountable for their insensitive and hurtful remarks. 2026 is the year that we defeat Kevin Kiley and his smug politics. If we continue with the progress that we made in 2025, Democrats are going to have an impact at all levels in Placer County next November.
Now is the time to re-dedicate yourself to making a difference. Use your skills and passions to join a club or work with the Central Committee. We are going to need an army of volunteers to go out into their communities to talk with their neighbors. All of our candidates are going to need your help to win. It all starts by showing up. You showed up in 2025, and now we need more to show up in 2026. We make progress by getting more people to show up and then by stepping up to help lead others. Now is the time for you to be the change that you want to see. Let us not waste this opportunity. I look forward to seeing you be a part of the Placer County Democratic Party and helping us win in 2026 and beyond.
