A Message from Our Chair Nick Bennett
October 2024
Time is flying fast and GOTV (Get Out The Vote) is upon us. You will be receiving your ballots soon along with mailers from the Placer County Democratic Party where we have endorsed candidates. Please be sure to vote early and remind your friends and family to vote too. Please make a plan to mail in your ballot or drop it off at one of the drop box locations in Placer County.
Now is the crucial time to be supporting candidates through campaign activities. All of our endorsed candidates need volunteers to knock on doors and make phone calls to sway voters and convince them to vote. There is a lot going on during the weekends and during the week, so please find an activity and join with your fellow Democrats so that we can finish strong!

A nation lives its values in many ways, and the candidates who earned our endorsements have shown they fully understand democratic values. In choosing the elected nonpartisan positions they are running for; they understand that it takes more than individuals to make a community fair and responsive for all residents. They know democracy is for everyone here in their communities and in the United States of America. The Placer County Democratic Party wants to acknowledge the hard work and commitment our endorsed candidates have made to our communities, our state, and our nation, by stepping up for public service. They are true patriots with integrity. They will show up and use their time to fight for our freedoms and democracy. In that spirit, we offer the following candidates for your consideration. We hope you appreciate them, as we do, and support them, volunteer time, and donate to help them finance their campaigns.
You can learn more about the candidates by clicking on their Internet links.

Every Single Vote Matters Avoid Unwanted Presidencies

By Cindy Engen
Communications Committee Member
We have been hearing about non-voters forever, but I did not realize how important an issue this was until I looked at statistics from the 2020 elections. Joe Biden received 81,284,666 votes and Donald Trump received 74,224,379, which is a difference of just over 7 million votes or about 4.5%. The number of people who were eligible but did not vote was about 80 million. Those votes would make a big difference when states determine who would get the electoral college votes. A few states split the electoral votes among candidates but for most states, “it is winner takes all.”
10 States with Largest Number of Electoral Votes 2024 |
California - 54 |
Texas - 40 |
Florida - 30 |
New York - 28 |
Pennsylvania - 19 |
Illinois - 19 |
Ohio - 17 |
Georgia - 16 |
North Carolina - 16 |
Michigan - 15 |
These ten states do not split electoral votes and together that makes 254 electoral votes. Since 270 electoral votes decide the winner, you see why these states are so important. There are now telephone campaigns (phone banking) in these states and hopefully, some of you can join as volunteers. This link shows you how: https://Events.democrats.org.
Why don’t people vote? Some may need help registering to vote. Some don’t see the importance of voting as it is all politics. Some cannot find anything they like in any of the candidates. Others feel their vote wouldn’t make a difference. We can try to address these issues if they bring them forward and maybe even change a mind or two. A sage once said, even if you don’t do politics, politics will do you.
The takeaway is that sometimes elections are decided by small percentages in each state. The outcome is that low voter turnout can result in unwanted, unpopular candidates versus responsive candidates who are better for our nation or for our state. Here in Placer County, we have a very good percentage of registered voters going to the polls. We should talk to whoever we can see if they are planning on voting this year and that they will go blue all the way down the ticket. Placer County Democratic Party has put together a list of candidates who share our ideas. Please tell everyone how important one vote can be for state issues as well as National ones.
