       Dolores Hueta's Endorsement

District 5 families are being crushed under the weight of high utility bills, and for the fourth time this year, the California Public Utilities Commission approved PG&E's request to raise rates. That hike was done without a full public hearing.
It is well past time that we address the unchecked power of the CPUC and PG&E. I will fight to ensure our energy needs are affordable, and that big corporations like PG&E are held accountable.

VOTING IS EASY IN PLACER COUNTY
by In-Person or Mail or Drop-Off

The Placer County Elections Office offers options for exercising voting rights: In-Person at Vote Center,  Mail-In, or Drop-Off voting. A voter can scan their finished ballot at a Vote Center. If a voter makes an error on a ballot, a new ballot can replace a spoiled or lost ballot. A voter can instead use a touch-screen ballot marking device, resulting in a newly printed ballot that can then be scanned.

For In-Person voting, Placer County has seven 11-day Vote Centers, which will be open from October 26 through November 5, and 22 will open starting on November 2.  All Vote Centers will be open until November 5 and close at  8 p.m.  Click here for locations.

Voters can also track their Mail-Ballot easily by simply going online to find out when it is received and counted.

  • Here is the Placer County link for mail-in ballots only: Placer Mail-In Tracker
  • Here is the California Secretary of State option for tracking your voting regardless of how you voted: Whereismyballot?
  • Consider signing up on both the County and the State systems

Besides mailing ballots through the U.S. Postal Service, Placer County offers voters 24 Ballot Drop Box Locations that are open 24/7; except they close 8 p.m. on Election Day (November 5). In addition, there are seven Ballot Drop Box Locations available during business hours only. You can also find the list of drop-off locations in the County of Placer General Election Voter Information Guide, dated November 5, 2024. Ballots can be dropped at Vote Centers.

SELECTED MESSAGES ENDORSING
HARRIS/WALZ

Jewish Democratic Council of America Endorsement

By Cindy Engen

Communications Committee Member

The Jewish Democratic Council of America (JDCA) was launched in November 2017 after former President Trump’s failure to condemn white nationalist and Neo-Nazi demonstrators. Prominent supporters include Adam Schiff, Ron Klein, Chuck Schumer, and renowned guest speakers such as Doug Emhoff and Barbara Streisand.

The mission of the Jewish Democratic Council of America (JDCA) is to be the political home and voice of Jewish voters, advocating for policies, and supporting Democrats who share our core values. These values are detailed in their Organization Values website described as follows: Freedom & Democracy, Dignity, Equity, and Equality; Justice; Peoplehood & Community; Welcoming the Stranger; and Repairing the World.

JDCA endorses candidates who share our Jewish and Democratic values. Every race is unique, and we consider each race on its own merits. In general, JDCA’s endorsement process considers many factors, such as the size of the Jewish population and the extent to which Jewish voters can impact the outcome of the election; whether candidates face strong challengers; and the candidates’ positions on issues of concern to Jewish voters and JDCA. The JDCA endorses Vice President Harris/Walz and Jessica Morse. Further details on the reasons can be found in the following link: www.JewishDems.org

Muslim Faith Leader Letter of Endorsement

NBC News, October 6, 2024 (Excerpt)
By Alex Seitz-Wald

A group of imams endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris in an open letter shared first with NBC News on Sunday, a critical boost as she steps up her efforts to win back disaffected Muslim voters amid the Israel-Hamas war.

The 25 Islamic religious leaders who signed  the letter, which comes a year after the Oct. 7 terrorist attack that sparked the war, argue that Muslim voters have a duty to think logically about their voting decisions and that backing Harris “far outweighs the harms of the other options." Mohamed Elsanousi, a Muslim community leader who helped organize the pro-Harris letter, noted that most of the 25 signers are permanent imams with sizable congregations, including some from swing states like Michigan, Pennsylvania, Georgia and North Carolina.

Liz Cheney, Adam Kizinger, and several other prominent Republicans have announced that they are endorsing Harris/Walz for President. Cheney has even taken further action to include joining Harris on the Campaign trail. Cheney announced during a speech at Duke University, North Carolina on Wednesday. She told the crowd: "As a conservative, as someone who believes in and cares about the Constitution, I have thought deeply about this, and because of the danger that Donald Trump poses, not only am I not voting for Donald Trump, but I will be voting for Kamala Harris." (Newsweek, Online; Aug 14, Sept 5, 2024). Here is a link for further information:

CNN, October 23, 2024
John Kelly, the retired Marine general who was Donald Trump’s White House chief of staff, entered the 2024 fray in stunning fashion, saying the former president fits “into the general definition of fascist” and wanted the “kind of generals Hitler had” in a series of interviews published Tuesday.

Kelly’s comments, two weeks from Election Day, are the latest in a line of warnings from former Trump White House aides about how he views the presidency and would exercise power if returned to office.

In addition to the fascist comments, Kelly — who was Trump’s chief of staff from 2017 to 2019 — told The New York Times that the former president “certainly prefers the dictator approach to government.”  Story Continues on CNN Link

Climate Change Impact on Homeowner Insurance

Commentary by Terry P Rodriguez
Auburn Democratic Party

The spiraling insurance inflation over the last decade of this century is globally attributed to increasingly intense weather systems caused by Climate change.  A consensus shared by many in the insurance industry, environmentalists, and political circles.  This was the argument put forth by one such analyst, Andrew J. Hoffman, in his article, "Why Home Insurance Rates are Rising fast across the US-Climate Change Plays a Role," appearing in the publication, The Conversation, published on September 24 2024.

The author is a professor of Management & Organizations, Environment & Sustainability, and Sustainable Enterprise at the Univeristy of Michigan.  According to the author, "Climate change is fueling more severe weather, and insurers are responding to rising damage claims."

Human Dignity, Courtesy, and Respect

By Robert Gonzalez, An Essay
Communications Committee Chair

One useful way to show human dignity, courtesy, and respect to each other is to first accept that all of us have a human right to find self-empowerment. As in the olden days of mass media, the chaotic Information Age shows that if you have information you have power. But today, the de-massified Social Media ecosystems challenge is identifying truthful and relevant information. With truthful and relevant information, voters can make thoughtful political decisions rather than decisions based on fear and hate. Ideally, they will make selections of political leaders that will respect human rights and freedoms for themselves and others.

That has not always proven true. The political evolution of the American experience has been far from ideal for many of its inhabitants. Since the founding days of United States access to voting rights has often been suppressed, obstructed, or violently prevented. Democrats of today believe that support for voting should include spreading all available voter information including multilingual format for current and new citizens so that everyone can easily vote.
